Kate Bradner rebounds

MayPort-CG junior forward Kate Bradner (23) and sophomore teammate Maysa Larson (3) attempt to corral a loose ball in Tuesday night’s game against Hillsboro-Central Valley. The Patriots beat the Burros 75-24.

Rural BUXTON – After starting the season 2-4, MayPort-CG won its second game in a row Tuesday with a 75-24 victory over Hillsboro-Central Valley.

The Patriots (4-4) were paced by sophomore Maysa Larson’s 25 points, while senior Madison Anderson added 10 of her own.

Rylee Satrom was out for MPCG and head coach Sean Moore said after the win his team was out of sync in the first quarter without its top scorer.

“Rylee is a major, major part of this team,” Moore said. “And I think we were just a little out of sync at the start.

“We haven’t practiced for a week. We came out tonight and the first half of the first quarter was kind of gross to watch, but the kids started doing things the right way.”

MPCG had an 11-2 advantage four minutes into the Region 2 contest but the Burros (1-7) made it 16-10 after back-to-back buckets by freshman Kennedy Olsen.

Olsen finished with a team-high nine points and freshman Haley Smelden added four steals for the home team.
