Tatum Mehus at Northwood

MayPort-CG freshman Tatum Mehus placed 71st at the Augustana Twilight meet Sept. 3 in Sioux Falls, S.D.

MayPort-CG’s girls cross-country team capped off a long week of training with a 20th-place finish at the Augustana Twilight meet in Sioux Falls, S.D. Sept. 3.

Three days after running a meet in Carrington, N.D., the Patriots were paced by freshman Tatum Mehus, who took 71st in 21:16.38 while senior Anna Strand finished eight seconds back in 82nd.

MPCG head coach Wendy Garrett-Mehus said several of her runners were disappointed with their times.

But she pointed out the course at Yankton Park is difficult with more than 225 runners packed into a narrow, short loop.

“If you didn’t get out fast, you’re going to get caught in the corral,” Garrett-Mehus said. “They got kind of trapped and it’s tough to get around.”
