Kaden Pastian’s throws soared past the competition and into the record books May 21 in Hillsboro.
The Hillsboro-Central Valley senior won the North East Region track and field titles in both the discus and shot put, shattering the region’s previous bests in each event.
The North Dakota State commit took first in the discus with a 193-foot, 4-inch toss – a personal record – and added a 62-foot, 2.5-inch throw in the shot put for first place.
Pastian’s shot put toss was nearly 16 feet farther than the region runner-up, and his marks in both events put him far in front of the competition heading into today’s (Friday’s) state meet in Bismarck.
The senior’s efforts helped guide H-CV to a regional boys team championship at the Hillsboro Sports Complex.
“There’s hard work, and then there’s really hard work, and then there’s what Kaden does,” said Hillsboro-Central Valley head track coach Kirk Zink.
“I don’t think I’ve coached a kid who deserves what he’s gotten the way Kaden has.”
