Raegan Zerface and Jaylin Cotton

MayPort-CG sophomore Raegan Zerface battles Central Cass senior Jaylin Cotton for a loose ball near midcourt in Saturday’s nonconference matchup. The Squirrels, ranked No. 1, won the game 69-32.

MAYVILLE – The MayPort-CG Patriots split a pair of back-to-back games against Midway-Minto and No. 1-ranked Central Cass the past week.

Sophomore Rylee Satrom poured in a game-high 15 points and teammate Raegan Zerface chipped in eight in MPCG’s 49-26 road win over Midway-Minto on Friday, Dec. 10.

But the Patriots were outmuscled at home by a physical and battle-tested Squirrels squad that’s averaging 73 points a game less than 24 hours later.

The Squirrels jumped out to a 16-2 lead early in Saturday’s matchup in Mayville and came away with a 69-32 win led by senior Jaylin Cotton, who paced Central Cass with 16 points.

MPCG head coach Sean Moore said his squad didn’t have the toughness it needed in the opening minutes of Saturday’s contest – although the Patriots showed more fire as the game went on.
