Kate Bradner dribbles

MayPort-CG sophomore Kate Bradner, left, dribbles past Midway-Minto defender Khaleela Korynta Tuesday night in Mayville. Bradner finished the evening with eight points.

MAYVILLE – Sophie Schuster sparked an 8-0 second-quarter rally and Midway-Minto outscored MayPort-CG 17-7 in the third quarter to lead the Mustangs past the the Patriots 57-32 Tuesday.

The 25-point loss spoiled the debut of Patriots head coach Sean Moore and a handful of first-time varsity starters for MPCG in their season opener.

Moore’s club played neck and neck with the potent Mustangs and sat tied 15-15 minutes prior to halftime before Schuster’s back-to-back buckets sparked Midway-Minto’s rally.

“They’re a tough team. Starting out against a team like that kind of showed us where we need to get better,” Moore said afterward.
