Paige Cotton made the most of her first run at Cooperstown Bible Camp.

The Hillsboro-Central Valley eighth-grader took fourth and led the Burro girls to a third-place finish Oct. 7 at the small G-Ott Courage meet.

Cotton’s finish in 21:08.14 was four seconds behind Rugby’s Brooklyn Bartsch, a top-10 runner in North Dakota’s Class B ranks this season.

Coach Kirk Zink said he was anxious to see how the junior high athlete would compete without freshman Myla Kaldor and sophomore Mallory Alfson – H-CV’s two most experienced runners – in the meet.

“Paige had to go out and set her own pace, especially in the first mile,” Zink said. “She ran really well. She’s peaking at the right time.”
