Chrisitan Brist in Hillsboro

Hillsboro-Central Valley sophomore Christian Brist, right, took 71st in a time of 17:52.38 at the Augustana Twilight meet in Sioux Falls, S.D., Sept. 3.

Kirk Zink said this year’s Augustana Twilight meet resembled roller derby more than cross country at times.

With nearly 300 runners on a short, narrow loop course, the Sioux Falls, S.D., event left little room to maneuver and had lots of opportunities for contact.

Still, the Burros boys took 22nd as a team with 581 points, while the girls amassed 521 points for 21st at the large meet.

“You throw 300 kids on that course where it’s 8-feet wide in some parts, and it’s a slow jog,” said Zink,  H-CV’s cross-country coach. “You could speed walk some of those places.”

The Burro boys were paced by sophomore Christian Brist, who took 71st with a time of 17:52.38.
