MAYVILLE – An extended layoff didn’t do Keenan Konschak’s club any favors.

The MayPort-CG head coach and his No. 5-ranked team hosted Cavalier on Tuesday night following an eight-day hiatus after a blizzard postponed MPCG’s Dec. 16 showdown with Thompson.

The Patriots struggled on their home court in the early going Tuesday against Cavalier, but Konschak didn’t want to make excuses for his team’s lackluster start.

“We showed a little bit of rust in that first half,” Konschak said afterward. “We were standing around too much and not cutting to the basket in that first half.”

Despite trailing by three at halftime – which marked the first time the 6-0 Patriots have been behind at the break this season – MPCG found its mojo in the second half and rolled to a 70-54 win.
