Xyler Carlson runs in the 100-meter dash

MayPort-CG Patriots sprinter Xyler Carlson runs in the 100-meter dash at a meet at MayPort-CG High School on Thursday, May 4 while three teammates look on in the background.

MAYVILLE – Down three of its biggest scorers, MayPort-CG’s girls came up a little short at Tuesday’s Red River Valley Conference Meet.

The Patriots picked up 103 points but took third behind Hillsboro-Central Valley and Hatton-Northwood at the outdoor meet, hosted at MPCG High School.

Senior Brooklyn Groth won two of her three events and Kate Bradner added an individual win in the 100-meter hurdles to lead MPCG.

However, sophomore Tatum Mehus had to withdraw from the meet with an illness and dual-sport athletes Ali Stromsodt and Rylee Satrom were missing for a softball game that day.

“We talked about our team scores, and the girls score was not necessarily where we wanted to be,” said Patriots head track coach Sam Tighe.

“It’s not bad to have a meet like that to point out how every point and every person matters.”
