Down a key runner, Hillsboro-Central Valley’s boys cross-country team showed its depth Aug. 26.
The third-ranked Burros finished runner-up to No. 2 Kindred in Northwood, led by eighth-grader Niko Zink’s 12th-place time of 18:20.
Junior Henry Nelson took 13th as H-CV’s team score of 72 was 12 back of the Vikings.
Burros coach Kirk Zink said he was thrilled for his son, who ran his best race of his career.
“For Niko … to run a personal best time early in the year on a hilly course is awesome,” said Kirk Zink.
“But, for our team, I hope that when they see that little blonde kid running by them, they know they need to run better,” he added. “I want to see everyone up there with him.”
