NORTHWOOD – Hillsboro-Central Valley climbed back from a 20-point third-quarter deficit but came up a point shy in a 57-56 loss to Hatton-Northwood on Tuesday.
The Burros (2-3) more than doubled the Thunder’s (2-4) scoring in the fourth quarter thanks to four 3-pointers from junior guard Parker Gallagher.
The loss marked H-CV’s second loss in a row after starting the season 2-1.
“We were fighting an uphill battle, and then in the third we were just kind of trading baskets with them and never really got the stops we needed,” Burros head coach Elliot Rotvold said.
“We worked hard on defense, but then had some unforced turnovers trying to make a play, but I thought we forced some turnovers on them, (too).”
H-CV started off strong and pounded the boards in a rematch of last year’s Region 2 title game but fell behind after a 7-0 run by the Thunder.
