Raegan Zerface against Maple River

MayPort-CG sophomore forward Raegen Zerface battles for a rebound during a free-throw attempt Monday night. Zerface scored 21 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead the Patriots to a 73-49 win over Maple River in Finley.

FINLEY, N.D. – Raegen Zerface scored a team-high 21 points to lead her new team over a squad filled with friends from her old team Monday.

The 5-foot-7 sophomore forward propelled MayPort-CG to a 73-49 win over Maple River, a first-year sports co-op between the Hope-Page and neighboring Maple Valley school districts.

Zerface and Patriots junior forward Alli Stromsodt laced up their sneakers for Finley-Sharon/Hope-Page a year ago before Finley-Sharon signed up to play with MPCG.

So Monday’s win by the Patriots – even though it came against a nonregion opponent – maybe meant a little bit more to Zerface and Stromsodt.

“It did but it didn’t,” Zerface said with a laugh afterward. “It did mean a little bit more. And it was a little different because I use to play with them.
