Maysa Larson against Hatton-Northwood

MayPort-CG freshman Maysa Larson drives into the paint for a score against Hatton-Northwood on Saturday. Larson had seven points in the Patriots’ 58-47 win over the Thunder.

NORTHWOOD, N.D. – MayPort-CG head coach Sean Moore believed Saturday’s matchup with Hatton-Northwood provided a much-needed litmus test for his club.

Freshman Rylee Satrom scored a team-high 13 points and junior teammate Kalynn Olson added 11 to lead MPCG over Hatton-Northwood 58-47.

The victory extended the Patriots’ winning streak to three and gave Moore’s team a jolt of confidence as MPCG attempts to work its way up the Region 2 rankings.

The Thunder entered Saturday’s Region 2 contest with an 8-1 record but still hadn’t faced the region’s heavy hitters, No. 2 Grafton and No. 7 Thompson.

“This game shows that we can play with most anybody,” Moore said afterward. “Hatton-Northwood is a good team. So for us to come in here and win, it shows that we are getting better and on the rise.”
