Jacob Brandt rebounds

Hillsboro-Central Valley junior center Jacob Brandt pulls down a rebound in the Burros’ home loss to Four Winds-Minnewaukan 69-47 on Jan. 13. Brandt scored 19 points in H-CV’s win over Grafton on Tuesday.

After taking a hard fall on his shoulder Saturday against North Star, word on the street was Peter Dryburgh was going to miss Tuesday’s game against Grafton.

Dryburgh missed Monday’s practice but Hillsboro-Central Valley (5-4) got news before tip-off that the senior forward was cleared to play against the Spoilers (6-2).

His 15 points helped the Burros kick their three-game skid with a 60-56 win over No. 6-ranked Grafton.

“He’s just going to have to tolerate the pain throughout the year and he feels better knowing he can’t injure it any worse,” Burros head coach Elliot Rotvold said Wednesday.

“But it was big having him there. He’s a good leader on the floor for us and he played smart last night. He used his big body inside and made some nice plays.”

The Burros had dropped four of their last five games coming into the Region 2 game with the Spoilers but never trailed in the contest despite nearly giving up their double-digit fourth-quarter lead.
