The MayPort-CG boys basketball team returned to the hardwood Monday to face a ragtag band of familiar foes who scouted the Patriots at nearly every game this season – and still couldn’t win.
Patriots head coach Taylor Kunkel and assistant coach Katie Richards teamed up with the fathers of MPCG’s players to take on their sons in a four-quarter, 16-minute scrimmage Monday night.
The game coincided with Kunkel’s end-of-the-year team awards, which followed a 34-27 win by the Patriots over their dads in front of a small crowd of cheering – and sometimes jeering – moms and wives.
“We came out and played hard but the shots didn’t fall for us,” Kunkel said with a laugh.
