For the first time all season, MayPort Area found itself in a 5-on-3 situation on Jan. 8 against Devils Lake.
Senior forward Tanner Lundwall tied the game at 1-1 in the second period for the Ice Dawgs but Chase Knudson’s squad had to work hard in the final period to come away with the 2-1 win over the Firebirds (3-8).
“We don’t want to be overly aggressive and we want to play what’s called the triangle,” Knudson said Wednesday about MayPort Area’s game plan when they are down two players because of penalties.
“It was the first 5-on-3 we had all year, too, and we haven’t really worked that much on it during practice.
“But our guys executed it very well for the first time.”
