Mallory Alfson looks to pass

Hillsboro-Central Valley freshman Mallory Alfson, center, looks to pass against the defense of Hatton-Northwood’s Amara Howson, left, and Megan Larson Tuesday night at Central Valley School.

Rural BUXTON – Hillsboro-Central Valley lost two early leads and saw an early defensive battle quickly get out of reach in Tuesday’s season opener as the Burros fell 77-34 at home at the hands of Hatton-Northwood.

“I didn’t like the result we had but I saw some positives,” H-CV head coach Kyle Morehart said after retaking the bench for the first time since stepping down in 2013.

“I think we just have to continue working on fundamentals, being strong with the ball and our decision making.”

H-CV senior forward Sydney Hennings banked in a shot to give the Burros an early lead and junior forward Ellie Knudsvig added a lay-up minutes later to put H-CV ahead 4-3.
