GRAFTON, N.D. – Hillsboro-Central Valley wrestlers entered the holidays on a high note last weekend.

Senior Barrett Willison brought home an individual championship at 195 pounds while junior Henry Nelson took first at 145 Saturday at a tournament in Grafton.

Sawyer Owens and John Geray took second while three other Burros took third.

“The guys were fabulous,” said H-CV wrestling coach Trace Bakke. “Now we know a bit more where we stand in our region.”

Nelson, ranked fourth statewide at 145 pounds, topped fifth-ranked Alex Ibanez 5-2 in the title match.

Ibanez, a Grafton senior, lost to Nelson 4-2 in a dual match Dec. 14, which leaves Carrington’s Brecken Lura, No. 2 in North Dakota, as the only Region 2 wrestler ranked ahead of Nelson.

“Lura won it all last year, but Henry’s put in the work and the time,” Bakke said. “If he just focuses on doing his moves and wrestling his match, he’ll be there come state.”
