Trevin Applegren makes a save

MayPort Area sophomore netminder Trevin Applegren makes a save Monday in a 3-1 loss to Red Lake Falls, Minn. Applegren finished with 33 saves on 36 shots in the contest.

RED LAKE FALLS, Minn. – Chase Knudson thinks Saturday could be a defining moment for his hockey program.

The MayPort Area Ice Dawgs will take on seventh-seeded West Fargo at 3:30 p.m. in an Eastern Dakota Conference tournament play-in game at West Fargo Sports Arena.

A win would give the Ice Dawgs, now in their third year of postseason eligibility, their first appearance in the EDC tournament.

“It would be a huge turning point for us, I think,” Knudson said Monday. “We’re starting to get a lot more followers now, and I think it would be a great step and challenge for us.”

MayPort Area won its first EDC game in program history earlier this year with a 6-3 victory over Grafton-Park River Jan. 2.
