The North Dakota High School Activities Association has sanctioned varsity girls wrestling for the 2021-22 school year.
NDHSAA’s board of directors met online Tuesday and agreed to sponsor the activity next winter.
Central Valley Superintendent Jeremy Brandt, who serves on the board, said the high school league was told nearly 80 girls participated in wrestling during the recent 2020-21 season.
Hillsboro-Central Valley has not had a female wrestler during the sports co-op’s nine-year run.
But Brandt said the Burros’ HERD youth wrestling program has had several girls wrestlers.
