Hillsboro-Central Valley’s energy wasn’t lacking late Tuesday.

The Burros volleyball team found its rhythm in the fourth set to complete a 25-18, 25-21, 21-25, 25-17 victory over visiting Nelson County at the Hillsboro Events Center.

With a raucous atmosphere amid Hillsboro and Central Valley’s Homecoming week, Burros junior Sydni Culp and senior outside hitter Stella Benson combined for 27 kills to lead the team to its first win at the HEC since Nov. 8, 2019.

“Culp did a great job swinging tonight – front and back row,” said H-CV coach Katie Kolness. “Our outsides really mixed their hits up, as well.”

Culp finished with a game-high 15 kills and added three blocks and 21 digs for the Burros, while Benson had 12 kills and added 12 digs.

Burros Junior Mataya Arends chipped in 24 digs and sophomore Molly Smelden added 30 assists in the win, the team’s fourth of the young season.
