Ethan Bergstrom catches a pass

MayPort-CG junior Ethan Bergstrom, right, catches a pass Saturday in front of Enderlin-Maple Valley’s Steven Drogen.

MAYVILLE – MayPort-CG quarterback Landon Koenig connected with tight end Walker McGillis on a 13-yard scoring strike in the game’s closing seconds to lead MPCG to a dramatic come-from-behind win over Enderlin-Maple Valley in the opening round of the North Dakota 9-man playoffs.

Koenig’s touchdown to McGillis put the Patriots (8-1) ahead 20-18 with 26 seconds remaining Saturday, allowing their club to squeeze past a big and physical Falcons (4-5) team that clamped down on MPCG’s high-powered rushing attack all afternoon.

MPCG head coach Adam Sola’s team had bruising battles earlier this year with tough-minded playoff squads like Cavalier and Finley-Sharon/Hope-Page.

But Sola said Enderlin-Maple Valley may be the most physical team the Patriots played all season.
