Sydney Owens’ high school golf career came to an early but fruitful end Tuesday.
The Hillsboro-Central Valley senior carded a 92 at Carrington’s CrossRoads Golf Course, two shots shy of qualifying for the state meet.
However, Owens, who qualified for the state meet three times in her career, was named Region 2’s senior athlete of the year.
“Sydney had an awesome career,” said Garth Limke, H-CV girls golf coach. “The Burro golf program will sorely miss her next year.”
The team couldn’t catch up to Kindred, Oak Grove and Carrington, who all qualified for the state Class B golf meet.
H-CV sophomore Madi Olsen shot a 97, a career best, and classmates Krista Ackerman added a 103 – also a personal best.
“Krista is a very athletic young lady and, like Madi, with a little time on the course could be a legitimate all-state caliber player,” Limke said.
