Parker Gallagher evades a tackle

Hillsboro-Central Valley senior wide receiver Parker Gallagher evades a tackle from a Central Cass defensive back in last year’s 13-6 overtime win over the Squirrels at Central Cass High School.

The 2021 season gets under way for Hillsboro-Central Valley tonight (Friday) at 7 p.m. against Central Cass.

The Burros face two non-conference opponents to start the season as they’ll host the Squirrels under the Hillsboro Sports Complex lights tonight and travel to Kindred Aug. 27.

“I wish it was a little bit easier,” H-CV head coach Scott Olsen said Tuesday about kicking off the 2021 season against two South-East squads.

“But we are an experienced crew and should be ready to go for any big game. The bigger the games you have earlier, the better.”

The Burros’ roster features 22 seniors and Olsen said that’s really helped his team get prepared for the first game against Central Cass.

“It’s been a little bit easier transitioning,” he said. “You’re not teaching so much as installing and having to worry about the little stuff because these guys know what they are doing.”
