Kate Bradner attacks

MayPort-CG junior Kate Bradner slams down one of her seven kills in Monday night’s five-set loss to Thompson. Bradner had five digs and 2.5 blocks on the night.

MAYVILLE – The ticket takers camped outside the door to the MayPort-CG school gym weren’t charging enough to get inside to watch this one.

Both unbeaten in Region 2 play, the MPCG Patriots and Thompson Tommies battled back and forth for two hours in a five-set thriller Monday night.

The Tommies trailed two sets to one but rallied to pull out the match (17-25, 25-19, 26-28, 32-30, 15-7) behind Mya Krogstad’s 18 kills.

The Patriots had two chances to seal the win with 26-25 and 28-27 leads in a pulse-pounding fourth set but head coach Lisa Strand’s team capitalized on back-to-back hitting errors by MPCG to close out the set.

MPCG head coach Stacy Hanson had no complaints about her team’s performance following the loss.
