GARRISON, N.D. – Landon Koenig had a dominant debut at the state Class B American Legion tournament in Garrison.

The 6-foot-6 right-hander struck out 13 batters and held Cando’s Post 79 to four hits over seven strong innings on Wednesday morning.

But Koenig and the Patriots couldn’t string together more than four hits off Cando ace Dane Hagler and dropped their opening round matchup 2-0.

Hagler, a first-team all-state  selection for North Star earlier this spring, surrendered two hits in the first six innings before giving up a pair in the seventh.

Koenig struck out the side in the second and third innings and didn’t allow a baserunner until giving up a single to Hagler on a line drive in the fourth.
