HATTON – Sophomore Jake Hutter tossed a seven-inning shutout and knocked in two on a sixth-inning double to lead MayPort-CG to a 6-0 win over Hatton-Northwood on Tuesday.
The victory marked the Patriots’ sixth in their last seven games and came on the heels of a 4-1 road win over the Thompson Tommies on Monday.
Patriots skipper Alex Berry said he’s pleased with MPCG’s recent run – which includes a 3-1 win over Hillsboro-Central Valley April 22 – but he refused to call the Patriots the team to beat in Region 2.
“The boys are doing a nice job and competing well,” Berry said. “(But) we can’t take anything for granted because we know on any given day, anyone can beat anybody in the region.”
Hutter and Hatton-Northwood senior Grant Mundahl spent most of Tuesday’s matchup in a pitchers’ duel as both teams were held scoreless through five innings.
MPCG threatened with two runners aboard in the second but went down 1-2-3 in the first, third and fifth against Mundahl.
