Christian Brist

Hillsboro-Central Valley freshman Christian Brist, right, fell to Grafton’s Alex Ibanez Tuesday night at the Hillsboro Events Center in a 145-pound matchup to open the season for both wrestlers.

Hillsboro-Central Valley wrestling coach Trace Bakke urged sophomore Henry Nelson to get aggressive before his debut match as a Burro Tuesday.

The Dickinson, N.D. transfer and his team responded in front of a home crowd at the Hillsboro Events Center.

Nelson won 9-3 over Grafton 132-pounder Chance Burns and the Burros took victories in five of seven contests in a season-opening dual with the Spoilers.

However, H-CV surrendered 24 points in forfeits for a 36-35 dual loss to Grafton before falling 47-15 to a loaded Carrington squad.

“We had a lot of guys stepping onto the mat for their first varsity match,” Bakke said. “We got a lot of big wins against Grafton. If it wasn’t for those forfeits, we would have won, for sure.”
