Maysa Larson attempts to tag

MayPort-CG freshman second-baseman Maysa Larson attempts to tag out a Des Lacs-Burlington/Lewis and Clark runner June 3 in the state Class B quarterfinals at Trapper Field in Jamestown, N.D. The Patriots fell 5-0 in the game.

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – MayPort-CG capped its three-day run at the state Class B softball tournament with a 15-5 win over Wilton-Wing on Saturday in Jamestown.

The 10-run victory over the Miners at Lyle “Trapper” Lawrence Field helped the Patriots take seventh at state after losing their first two games of the tourney June 3-4.

The win also allowed MPCG to avenge a 12-6 loss to Wilton-Wing May 8 in Fargo.

MPCG head coach Tim Spurgeon said freshman Danica Hanson told him before Saturday’s contest that beating the Miners was important to the third baseman.

“She said ‘I don’t want to lose to them again,’” Spurgeon said. “So I knew coming into that game that the team was focused on winning.”
