Riley Olsen against Fletcher Willprecht

Hillsboro-Central Valley senior guard Riley Olsen, right, looks to pass against the defense of Sargent County senior Fletcher Willprecht Saturday at the Hillsboro Events Center. Riley and the Burros fell 50-33 to the visiting Bulldogs.

Hillsboro-Central Valley followed a thrilling overtime victory Jan. 6 with a season-low 33 points a day later against Sargent County.

The Burros edged Ada-Borup-West (Minn.) 68-65 on Jan. 6 after junior Jacob Brandt sent the game to overtime with a late 3-pointer.

However, that energy didn’t transfer back home to the Hillsboro Events Center on Saturday.

Sargent County held H-CV to 24 percent shooting from the floor and won its sixth game in a row with a 50-33 road victory over the Burros.

“We didn’t put the ball in the basket,” Burros head coach Elliot Rotvold said. “It wasn’t like they were doing anything we haven’t practiced or seen against other teams. We just didn’t show up to play on Saturday.”

The Bulldogs took advantage of H-CV’s cold start in the first quarter and jumped out to a 16-3 lead after the game’s opening eight minutes.

Junior Luke Martinson scored six of his team-high 13 points in the opening frame and was Sargent County’s only player in double figures.
