Hillsboro-Central Valley wrestlers celebrated senior night with a dominating 48-6 win over cross-county rival MayPort-CG on Tuesday night.
On a night filled with smiles by the Burros, no one’s was bigger than the one on the face of freshman Carter Iverson.
Iverson went nose to nose with Patriot freshman Jaylen Harstad in a low-scoring defensive battle through two periods before Iverson caught a second wind and showcased moves unseen from head coach Trace Bakke this season.
“Carter Iverson stepped up tonight,” Bakke said. “He came out tonight with two big wins, two big region wins, and that’ll hopefully make our goal of making it to state (easier). ... He really impressed me.”
In his pivotal match with Harstad, Iverson fought off leg grabs and takedown attempts early and leveraged to score first on a takedown in the opening frame.
