Micah Longthorne against Hudson Rietschel

Hillsboro-Central Valley senior Micah Longthorne, right, has a ball tipped away by Northern Cass eighth-grader Hudson Rietschel in H-CV’s 68-52 win Dec. 22 over the Jaguars at Northern Cass School.

Rural HUNTER, N.D. – Hillsboro-Central Valley was challenged by Northern Cass’ defense on Dec. 22 but still managed to pull out a 68-52 road win last week.

The Burros picked up their second road victory in their first three games of the year and were paced by juniors Landon Olson and Jacob Brandt, who combined for nearly half of H-CV’s points.

Olson finished the contest with 20 points, including 15 in the second half, and Brandt chipped in 15. Senior Riley Olsen had his best offensive game of the early season and finished with 10 points and two 3-pointers.

“(It was) a good win on the road against a decent Northern Cass team that’s going to give a lot of teams some trouble, especially when they’re shooting the ball well,” H-CV head coach Elliot Rotvold said Tuesday.

Despite having practiced only three times since Dec. 13 due to the winter weather, H-CV worked through the Jaguars’ double-team defense and battled some foul trouble throughout the non-region clash.
