Raegan Zerface looks to pass

Raegan Zerface, a sophomore for MayPort-CG from Finley-Sharon, looks to pass to a teammate during the Patriots’ game against Grafton on Dec. 2 at MayPort-CG High School. Zerface and the Patriots travel to Midway-Minto tonight (Friday) before hosting Central Cass in a boys-girls doubleheader Saturday.

MAYVILLE – Losing all-state point guard and University of North Dakota commit Carlee Sieben and her sister, Cassie, a Mayville State recruit, to graduation in May should have slowed down the Grafton Spoilers.

But the defending Class B basketball champs proved they still have plenty of punch left in their lineup in their Dec. 2 showdown with MayPort-CG.

Led by 6-foot-3 standout Walker Demers, the No. 3-ranked Spoilers raced out to a 20-2 first-quarter lead and cruised to a 58-20 victory over the Patriots.

MPCG head coach Sean Moore said his team settled in and played more competitively against Grafton’s towering lineup in the second half.

But the Patriots had trouble keeping Demers and the Spoilers – who have five players who stand at least 6 feet tall – off the boards early in their Region 2 clash.
