Ryan Nielsen can remember one other year his team’s been outside for the first day of practice.
The Hillsboro-Central Valley boys golf coach said his team needs every minute of work at the Goose River Golf Course to prepare for next Thursday’s season-opening meet at King’s Walk Golf Course in Grand Forks.
“We were outside Monday for our first practice, and it’s been awesome,” Nielsen said. “It’s a pain in the butt setting up the net in the (Hillsboro Events Center) mezzanine and then bringing birdie-balls in.
“You can only have about 25 minutes of effective practice in there because you’re not getting the right feedback.”
Nielsen has around 15 golfers in grades 7-12 this season, led by senior Sam Preston, back for his final season with the Burros.
