Hillsboro-Central Valley played lockdown defense in the early going of its home finale but couldn’t keep MayPort-CG’s potent offense in check for four quarters.
The visiting Patriots led 12-8 after one quarter but caught fire offensively and left the Hillsboro Events Center with a 56-19 win over the Burros Monday night.
H-CV (1-18) and its zone defense forced the Patriots (11-10) to rely on perimeter shots in the game’s opening quarter but MPCG had troubling dialing in from deep.
MPCG led 10-4 midway through the period but scores by Ellie Knudsvig and a pair of baskets by Sydney Hennings helped H-CV close the gap at 12-8 after eight minutes.
But the Patriots offense found its stride in the second quarter when MPCG outscored H-CV 26-3.
