Jacob Brandt and Kyle Odenbach

Hillsboro-Central Valley freshman Jacob Brandt prepares to shoot over Thompson junior Kyle Odenbach in Tuesday’s 51-45 win over the Tommies. Brandt scored 16 points in the victory.

THOMPSON – Hillsboro-Central Valley completed a season sweep of Thompson Tuesday night with a 51-45 win behind freshman forward Jacob Brandt and a strong second half.

After the Burros sank three baskets in the opening quarter, Brandt checked into the game and scored nine of his game-high 16 points to get H-CV back on track.

“Tonight we went with the hot hand … and Jacob was able to make some tough plays there in the fourth quarter for us,” said H-CV head coach Elliot Rotvold.

“It’s always good to have that kind of guy to go to.”

The Burros did a better job following their shots in the second quarter to create second-chance opportunities and improved their ball movement after a rocky first quarter.

Brandt sank two foul shots and an elbow jumper to start the second quarter and H-CV scored on its next possession for its first back-to-back points of the game.
