MAYVILLE – An early defensive slugfest between MayPort Area and Crookston (Minn.) early in the Ice Dawgs’ regular-season home finale turned into another offensive onslaught sparked by a five-goal second period Tuesday night.
The Ice Dawgs and Pirates took a 1-1 battle into period two before the scoring barrage.
After giving up a quick goal less than two minutes into the game to MayPort Area freshman defender Walker McGillis, Crookston allowed a lot of play in its own end but didn’t allow many scoring chances.
The Pirates held the Ice Dawgs off the score sheet and stole a goal of their own on an offensive zone faceoff wrister after a MayPort Area penalty.
