Jace Leshuk against Thompson

Hillsboro-Central Valley senior running back Jace Leshuk, center, combined with quarterback Riley Olsen to rush for 209 yards against Thompson on Friday, Oct. 15. The Burros beat the Tommies 41-12 in the first meeting between the teams since 2012.

THOMPSON – Before Hillsboro-Central Valley trotted onto the field on Friday, Oct. 15, head coach Scott Olsen had one final message for his team.

He preached how important it was to start fast on the road against a Thompson team that was riding a three-game winning streak and a club the Burros hadn’t played in nearly a decade.

The Burros responded well to Olsen’s message and rattled off 21 first-quarter points en route to a 41-12 thrashing of the Tommies (5-4) to end the regular season.

“Proud of the kids,” Olsen said after the game. “We jumped out right away. (We) had a little bit of a lull in the second quarter, but we finished off the second half.”

Senior Jace Leshuk and junior Riley Olsen finished with more than 100 rushing yards apiece and combined for three rushing touchdowns as the Burros racked up 294 rushing yards on 34 attempts (8.6 rushing yards per carry).

But it was senior Gannon Limke who stole the show with his two interceptions and one receiving touchdown.
