Losing the election was a blow to my ego, for one. Two, I thought I had more support than what the election results showed.

I took out my disappointment on the electorate in my newspaper.

My close personal friends – the barber, baker, banker and basketball coach – wanted to write the “blazing” headline summarizing my anguish suffered on election night.

“Editor’s foray into politics ends in humiliating defeat.”

“Mental health experts called in response to devastating loss on election night.”

“Dejected newspaper editor promises never to return to the political arena.”

“Nelson demands recount following close loss in election; suspects skulduggery.”
