High school sports resumed practices throughout the state this week after North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum amended the details of his sports suspension.      While slowing the spread of COVID-19 is important, the decision to resume was the right call.

Burgum issued new requirements Nov. 13 for businesses, gatherings and masks that included the halt of winter sports in high school, as well as recreational sports, in hopes of slowing the spread of the coronavirus.

His initial decision stopped all high school practices and competitions until Dec. 14.

But after backlash and feedback from students and parents, as well as state legislators, he announced Nov. 18 that only competitions would remain under suspension until Dec. 14 and practices could resume again this past Monday.
