Elizabeth Ann Nelson, 80 of Crary, N.D. passed away peacefully at her home in the loving care of her family and Altru Hospice on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2021.
Elizabeth was born on May 18, 1940, in Halstad, Minn., the daughter of Joseph and Leila (Enger) Anderson. She was baptized on June 30, 1940, in Hendrum, Minn., and entered the Catholic Church on Jan. 17, 2021.
She was the eldest of three children. She graduated from Hendrum High School in 1958. She attended NDSU and obtained her teaching degree in Home Economics in 1962. She was in education for over 45 years beginning in Hillsboro where she lived until 1979. She also taught at Grandin, Fort Yates, Edmore and Fort Totten, N.D., which included writing grants while at Fort Totten. She also served as the program coordinator for Lake Region Corporation and 4th Corporation in Devils Lake, N.D.
She was married to Dennis R. Nelson on April 12, 1963, in Hendrum. They were married for over 53 years until his death in 2016. They adopted and raised 6 children, which included raising 3 grandchildren. Her family started in 1967 and continually cared for her minor children for over 50 years until her death. She was a wonderful Mother with a caring and loving heart for all her children.
Elizabeth is survived by her children: Jessica (Steve) Pew, Alaska; Andrew (Elizabeth) Nelson, Devils Lake; Matt (Linnea) Nelson, Calif.; Beth (Matt) Wells, Ill.; Melissa Nelson, Texas, and Andrea Nelson; brother Tom Anderson, Texas; brother-in-law George Hills (Sue) Colo.; grandchildren Daishawn, Arieanna and Elicia who were adopted by her and 13 other grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; several nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Sue.
