Richard (Dick) Alan Woods was born on May 15, 1963, to Robert and Orella “Pat” (Nysveen) Woods. He grew up and attended school in Hillsboro, N.D. and graduated from Hillsboro High School.
Richard was united in marriage to Wanda Pruitt on May 7, 1988 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hillsboro. They moved to California a couple of years later. Richard moved back to Hillsboro about ten years after that.
He held various jobs in the area throughout the years; his favorites were dealing blackjack and working the beet harvest. He was a “what you see is what you get” kind of guy and he loved people. He was a lot like his dad in that he could strike up a conversation with anyone.
Dick always loved music. He had a wonderful experience during high school touring Europe with the International Music Camp. He also used to sing at funerals in his younger days. Karaoke may have also been in his repertoire.
Dick enjoyed playing cribbage (especially with his dad and his brother), golf, crossword puzzles, card games, and his favorite was poker. He was fortunate to win the state poker tournament in 2007.
One of the highlights of Dick’s life was attending his daughter’s wedding in California. That is a beautiful memory we will always cherish.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his partner of ten years, Margaret Sundeen.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Heather (Randy) Garrison; Heather’s mother, Wanda Woods; his brother, Bill (Joni) Woods; sister, Mary Woods; nieces, Katy Larson and Tammy Yarber; Tammy’s sons, Jaxon and Mavrik; his partner, Kristina Laubach; Kristina’s daughter, Elsa; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. These people all held a special place in his heart.
A private family service was held for Richard. Livestream of his service was available at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, 2020 on the Boulger Funeral Home website.
