Barbara Naomi Sorum passed away surrounded by the love of family in Mesa, AZ on March 9th, 2023. She will be remembered fondly by her family and friends for her fun living spirit, beautiful quilts, her smile that would light up a room and the most heartwarming hugs.
She was born September 7th, 1948 to Loyce (Olsgaard) and Lloyd (Sarge) Sorum in Hillsboro, ND.
Barb grew up on Monkey Island with her sister and as a young girl was active in 4-H, developed a passion for knitting, cooking, and spinning wool into yarn – often demonstrating at area heritage days. She was confirmed and an active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1966. Barb excelled in all things involved with making a house a loving home and raised her three boys on a farm south of town – where she would often hop on a tractor to make sure all the crops got in on time – there was really nothing she couldn’t do!
In November 1985 she moved to Arizona where she mastered the art of quilting, loved to travel, and retired from the United States Postal Service after more than 25 years of service. She leaves behind many beautiful works of art and was a beloved Mom, Grandma, Sister, friend, and Auntie Barbie – her smiles, hugs, and pizzaz for life will forever be remembered.
She is survived by her three boys: Dale (Mai) McInnes, Peter (Angela) McInnes, Daniel (Shannon) McInnes all of the Phoenix, AZ area; her Grandchildren David, Katie and Killian, Nicholas and Ryan; her sister Peggy (Cordell) Willison of Ada, MN along with their girls Suzann Willison of Kansas City, MO and Kari (James) Peterson of Rochester, MN.
