Gillette Munter

Gillette Curtis Munter passed away July 27, 2021, at his home in Hillsboro, North Dakota.

Gillette was born March 9, 1937, in Norman County, Minnesota, as the oldest child of George and Clara (Aure) Munter. Gillette grew up and lived in Cummings and later Finley, North Dakota.

Gillette Munter and Diane Thorsrud were united in marriage on May 12, 1962, in Sisseton, South Dakota. They lived in Aberdeen, South Dakota, where their son, Michael, was born in 1963. They moved back to Hillsboro where their infant son was born sleeping in 1966 and their daughter, Rachel, was born in 1968. Gillette and his family lived in Sumner, Washington for one year in the 1970s, before moving back to Hillsboro. Gillette lived happily with Diane until her passing on May 14, 2021, two days after celebrating 59 years of marriage together. Gillette missed Diane terribly for the last two months of his life.

Gillette worked at Agway in Grandin, North Dakota until his retirement in 1992. He enjoyed planting a garden each summer, working on his Model A, and driving it in the Hillsboro Days parade. Every summer he looked forward to spending time with everyone at the Munter family reunion.  Gillette’s quiet humor will be missed by his family forever.

Gillette is survived by his son, Michael, and his wife, Jackie; his daughter, Rachel, and her husband, Curt; and his grandchildren Matthew, Amanda, Cassy (Michael), Samantha, and Jessica. He is survived by six siblings: Arlin (Kaye), Gene (Sharon), Roger (Sharon), Everett (Alice), Evelyn, and Ron (Ilene). Gillette is also survived by many brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, neighbors, and friends.

Gillette was preceded in death by his soulmate, Diane; his parents; sisters Linda, Eva, and Vera; brothers Jerry, Brian, Leslie, and Dennis; and his infant son.
