On January 5, 2022, Jim Ashland passed away peacefully surrounded by his children. He had battled Parkinson’s disease for many years.  

He was born in Sharon, N.D., on July 17, 1944. He lived in Hillsboro, N.D., most of his life where he attended school and excelled in all sports.  

He graduated from UND with a degree in business administration. He worked for Dorsey Pharmaceuticals, 3M and American Crystal Sugar Co. in Hillsboro.  

He then attended the ND State Collage of Science in Wahpeton, N.D., and graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering.  

He was hired by the Western Geophysical Co. where he was a manager overseeing oil exploration in the sea.  This job took him all over the world, and he lived on many continents.  

He met his wife Elena in Actau, Kazakhstan. They moved to Hillsboro where they were married on August 15, 1995.  

They had two children, Ross and Ana.   

He is survived by his beloved life partner, Elena, his two children, his sister Carolyn Ashland Post and three nieces. 

He will be missed by his loving family and his many friends.  

A memorial service is planned for a future date in the spring.
