Gary A. Brend, 64, of Buxton, ND, passed away on Thursday, April 8, 2021, at his home with his wife and family at his side.
A viewing was held on Wednesday, April 14th from 2:30-4:00 at Amundson Funeral Home, with cremation following the next day. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 16th at 2:00 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Buxton, with urn burial to follow.
Gary was born on August 28, 1956 in Traill County, North Dakota, the son of Lawrence and Helene (Gunderson) Brend. He grew up in Cummings, North Dakota, and graduated from Central Valley Public School in 1974.
After high school, Gary enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp, and honorably served from 1974 to 1980. After his service time, Gary spent 20 years as a Journeyman Lineman, and was a member of the IBEW #304, in Topeka, Kansas. He served as Councilman of Turon, Kansas for 8 years before becoming Mayor of Turon.
Gary enjoyed travelling, family time and family reunions. When he could, he enjoyed going to the VFW to see the guys.
Gary is survived by: his wife, Vicki, of Buxton; daughter Emily Hayden of Derby, KS; step-children, Torry Ward of Hutchinson, KS, Michelle (Jason) Oglesby of Haysville, KS, and Tobby (Amanda) Ward; Sister, Julie Kirchmeier of Ada, MN; Brother, Lyle (Pat) Brend of Mesa, AZ; Mother-in-Law, Karen (Ron) Peters of Kilgore, TX; Father-in-law, Bob (Sherri) Hauschild of Hutchinson, KS; Brother-in-law, Tim Hauschild of Prairie Village, KS; Many grandchildren, step-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Helene Brend and a Brother-in-law, Gerald Kirchmeier.
Masks will be required and casual attire is requested.
