Representatives from Traill County plan to ask the North Dakota Department of Transportation for $2 million to replace a pair of aging timber bridges southeast of Mayville.

Corwyn Martin, the county’s road and bridge supervisor, told the Traill County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday that DOT officials recently announced $25 million in grant money had been set aside for infrastructure projects by the state Legislature.

Counties are eligible to receive $1.25 million for individual projects – and capped at $2 million – but grant recipients don’t need to provide a matching local share to be eligible, he said.

Martin asked county commissioners for permission to submit grant applications to pay for replacing Bridge 231 6 miles southeast of Mayville and Bridge 316 a mile away along County Road 13.
