HBA Christmas Carnival

Ava Maertens, formerly of Hillsboro, visits with Santa Claus during the Hillsboro Business Association’s annual Christmas carnival in December 2019. This year’s carnival has been called off due to concerns over COVID-19, but organizers have announced plans to hold tree-decorating and snowman contests next month.

The Hillsboro Business Association on Wednesday continued mapping out plans for the organization’s revamped Christmas carnival, which will be held in downtown Hillsboro on Sunday, Dec. 12.

Sheila Geray, who serves on HBA’s Christmas committee, told fellow merchants that HBA had been approached by the Traill County Historical Society about taking part in the carnival.

Members of the historical society want to spearhead the outdoor scavenger hunt that HBA’s Christmas committee announced a month ago, Geray said.

The request received an overwhelming thumbs-up from HBA members Wednesday.

“They’re taking over part of our activities so we won’t have to worry about it,” Geray said.
