Parents of Hillsboro-Central Valley athletes will be allowed to attend home basketball games and wrestling matches this winter even if attendance exceeds 50 fans.
Burros athletic director Dave Nelson told the Hillsboro School Board on Dec. 10 that school officials agreed to increase the number of fans allowed at home contests after previously capping them at 50.
The decision came on the heels of recent guidelines released by the North Dakota High School Activities Association that recommended facilities that hold fewer than 1,000 fans limit their attendance to 25 percent of capacity or 150 spectators to stem the spread of the coronavirus.
Nelson estimated the main gym at Central Valley School has space for 600 fans while the Hillsboro Events Center holds about a thousand.
