A group of Hillsboro-area residents is looking for land outside the city to host a new shooting club.
The Hillsboro Shooting Sports group held its first meeting March 26, sparking interest in the organization from nearly 20 local families.
The club, currently focused on trap shooting, hopes to expand to rifle and pistol shooting along with archery in the future.
“The idea is to open it up for everybody,” said Don Huckins, one of the group’s organizers.
“There needs to be stuff to do in this town,” he said. “The town is growing. We need to help grow the community.”
Huckins and Trevor Kittelson of Hillsboro, another club organizer, have toyed around with the idea of a trap shooting club for a while.
